I am going to go see this movie as a Christopher Reeve fan and probably the only fan of Superman Returns. I liked the first two movies that Reeve had done, but when they switched and made #3 and #4 less serious, I didn't really enjoy them all that much...though I still enjoyed the characters and their interactions.
As for Superman Returns, yes, it has its bad points, but I enjoyed Brandon Routh as Superman / Clark Kent. I think he portrayed the character rather well and I liked how the suit looked. It stayed classic. Tom Welling even wore it in the last episode of Smallville.

With the latest movie in the franchise, I'm skeptical on the story. I liked the way the first Superman movie was told. It had everything spot on, from the destruction of Krypton and the backstory of Jor-El to how Clark found out his alien origins, developed his relationship to Lois, and everything else.
The way this new costume looks is so very wrong. It looks like armor, there's hardly any red, and the S looks all wrong on his chest. I'm hoping Man of Steel will prove me wrong come Tuesday night and I will write another article on whether it did or not.
