Danzig's case is that a 1994 contract gave control of the Misfits brand and merchandising rights to members of the band equally. Since the 2000s, however, the Misfits trademark and logos were registered without the singer's knowledge by Caiafa, and deals were made more recently with Hot Topic, but Danzig hasn't seen a single cent.
Selling out never looked so good |
Nope. Not cool. |
Danzig further attacks Caiafa by saying that the bassist conned merchants and other business partners into believing he (Caiafa) was the sole proprietor of the brand and even threatened them if they were to do business with Danzig. Due to this, Danzig has not been able to license anything Misfits related, causing him at least $75,000 in damages plus interests.
Whether Danzig scorns any particular item of merchandise or not remains to be seen, as well as where all the junk in Hot Topic will end up. Granted, some of it is of dubious taste, but I wouldn't mind my band's logo on a bikini top - or bottom. Preferably both.
