One scene in particular seems to have stuck with people, the final one before the credits roll that features a young sapling version of Groot shaking what Mother Nature gave him to the beat of Jackson Five's "I Want You Back." Fans have demanded a home version of a dancing Groot to greet them on their shelves, desks, or car dashboards. Unfortunately, we're still waiting for a fully functional version. Marvel has heard our affections and wants to give us something to bite on for now: the full scene in HD for us to view whenever we want! And, of course, make GIFs from!
The scene was actually originally intended to be the after-credits sequence to Guardians of the Galaxy, but after director James Gunn fell in love with it he bumped it up to being a part of the main feature. "It worked so well I wanted to put it at the actual end of the film so none of the audience would miss it," says Gunn in an interview with Yahoo! Movies.
Fun fact: while Vin Diesel provided the voice for the character, it's certainly not his dance moves we see during this scene. These belong to none other than James Gunn himself! “I was too embarrassed for anyone to be there, so I made everyone leave the room and I set up a camera and I videotaped myself dancing. Then I sent the video to the animators and had them animate over that. I begged them not to leak the video! Two of my closest friends came to an early screening and said ‘Hey, I recognize those moves! That’s you dancing isn’t it?!’”
Is this not the best scene in the movie? How much would you pay for a dancing Groot? Tell us below in the comments. Oh, and about that GIF…
