Huston certainly has the look down and this is a better choice to play the character than the names that have been bandied about over the last couple of years like Johnny Depp or Joaquin Phoenix. Nothing against them, but I would rather see someone less known so I can focus on the character and not the actor. Scott Derrickson is set to direct the film, which is being released in 2016. Derrickson has directed some crappy films in the past, like the direct-to-video Hellraiser: Inferno and The Day the Earth Stood Still remake, but he also helmed Sinister, which was an excellent horror film, so I'll nurture some hope that Doctor Strange will be good. It's Marvel, after all.
This is only a rumor at this point, and keep in mind that this same website claimed for sure—no doubt about—it, that Jon Hamm was going to play the character, so don't read too much into it. There is no official statement from Marvel yet, but we also know Huston was in the running to play Peter Quill/Star Lord in The Guardians of the Galaxy, a part that eventually went to Chris Pratt. That means Huston is on their radar and if they liked him enough to push him through deep in the audition process for Star Lord, they could conceivably keep him around for other parts.
Is Huston good on Boardwalk Empire? Would he be a good choice for playing Doctor Strange? Sound off below.
