Welcome to another edition of 6 Flicks Picks, wherein I list all of the upcoming films that are scheduled to be released in the United States for the month which is about to begin and break down which ones I'll be watching in theaters, which ones I'll wait to rent at home, and which ones I'll be skipping out on entirely. After going through the list, I'll choose which six films stand out to me as the ones I want to see the most, even if there are more or less than six that interest me.

Note: The list below is based primarily off the expanded nationwide USA release dates on IMDB as well as some other random outlets if possible, so some information may be different. If I am missing some of the limited releases or the dates conflict in some fashion, please let me know in the comments below and any adjustments and corrections will be made!

Without further ado, another new month means another new set of films, so what's coming soon to theaters in December 2018?



Mary Queen of Scots

Synopsis: Mary Stuart's attempt to overthrow her cousin Elizabeth I, Queen of England, finds her condemned to years of imprisonment before facing execution.

Under the Silver Lake

Synopsis: Sam, intelligent but without purpose, finds a mysterious woman swimming in his apartment's pool one night. The next morning, she disappears. Sam sets off across LA to find her, and along the way he uncovers a conspiracy far more bizarre.

Vox Lux

Synopsis: An unusual set of circumstances brings unexpected success to a pop star.

The Silence

Synopsis: The Story of a family struggling to survive in a world terrorized by a deadly, primeval species who have bred for decades in the pitch darkness of a vast underground cave system, hunting only with their acute hearing. As the family seeks refuge in a remote haven where they can wait out the invasion, they start to wonder what kind of world will remain when they're ready to emerge.

Ben Is Back

Synopsis: Follows the charming yet troubled Ben Burns (Hedges), who returns home to his unsuspecting family one fateful Christmas Eve. Ben's wary mother Holly Burns (Roberts) welcomes her beloved son's return, but soon learns he is still very much in harm's way. During the 24 hours that may change their lives forever, Holly must do everything in her power to avoid the family's downfall.

Capernaum

Synopsis: While serving a five-year sentence for a violent crime, a 12-year-old boy sues his parents for neglect.

The Invisibles

Synopsis: Four young Jews survive the Third Reich in the middle of Berlin by living so recklessly that they become "invisible."

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Synopsis: Spider-Man crosses parallel dimensions and teams up with the Spider-Men of those dimensions to stop a threat to all reality.

The Mule

Synopsis: A 90-year-old horticulturist and WWII veteran is caught transporting $3 million worth of cocaine through Michigan for a Mexican drug cartel.

Will I watch? = Maybe

Mortal Engines

Synopsis: A mysterious young woman named Hester Shaw joins forces with Anna Fang, a dangerous outlaw with a bounty on her head, and Tom Natsworthy, an outcast from London, to lead a rebellion against a giant predator city on wheels.

Will I watch? = No

Second Act

Synopsis: A big box store worker reinvents her life and her life-story and shows Madison Avenue what street smarts can do.

Will I watch? = No

The Wedding

Synopsis: Rami, a young Muslim man, is preparing for his wedding with Sara while fulfilling a queer sexuality in secret due to a strict religious and cultural upbringing.

Aquaman

Synopsis: Arthur Curry learns that he is the heir to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, and must step forward to lead his people and be a hero to the world.

Bumblebee

Synopsis: On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie, on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken.

Mary Poppins Returns

Synopsis: Decades after her original visit, the magical nanny returns to help the Banks siblings and Michael's children through a difficult time in their lives.

Welcome to Marwen

Synopsis: A victim of a brutal attack finds a unique and beautiful therapeutic outlet to help him through his recovery process.

Cold War

Synopsis: A passionate love story between two people of different backgrounds and temperaments, who are fatefully mismatched and yet condemned to each other. Set against the background of the Cold War in the 1950s in Poland, Berlin, Yugoslavia and Paris, the film depicts an impossible love story in impossible times.

Zero

Synopsis: A rich but physically-challenged man struggles to find his perfect match but his experiences with an amputee and a superstar lead to many adventures which help him complete his imperfection.

Holmes & Watson

Synopsis: A humorous take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic mysteries featuring Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson.

Will I watch? = No

Vice

Synopsis: VICE explores how a bureaucratic Washington insider quietly became the most powerful man in the world as Vice-President to George W. Bush, reshaping the country and the globe in ways still felt today.

Destroyer

Synopsis: A police detective reconnects with people from an undercover assignment in her distant past in order to make peace.

Will I watch? = No

On the Basis of Sex

Synopsis: The story of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, her struggles for equal rights and what she had to overcome in order to become a U.S. Supreme Court Justice.

Will I watch? = No

Stan & Ollie

Synopsis: Laurel and Hardy, the world's most famous comedy duo, attempt to reignite their film careers as they embark on what becomes their swan song - a grueling theatre tour of post-war Britain.

Will I watch? = No

6. The Silence / Under the Silver Lake — There isn't a trailer for The Silence yet, so I can't quite judge if that's the thing that I would pick over Under the Silver Lake, but it's definitely between those two.

5. Vice — Not a fan of George Bush or Dick Cheney, but the trailer had me laughing.

4. Bumblebee — I've learned my lesson that I'm not paying to watch these movies anymore. But, with the three free movies per week from AMC A-List, maybe, maybe I'd watch it.

3. The Mule — The song used in this trailer alone is a good enough reason to see this movie.

2. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse — It's Spider-Man. Of course I'm seeing this.

1. Aquaman — It's a DC film. I already bought my tickets, even though it's Aquaman.
