Welcome to another edition of WEEK IN GEEK here at Fanboys Anonymous—a rundown of some of the events, news and stories that went down over the past few days in the geek culture spectrum.
Here are some of the topics I felt like voicing my opinions about:
Deadpool Taking Over Stan Lee's Cameos
There's a rumor going around that Ryan Reynolds is going to replace Stan Lee as the perpetual cameos in the MCU films going forward, reprising his role as Deadpool here and there.
If that's true...which I take with a big grain of salt...then I absolutely, absolutely love that idea. I think that's a magnificent way to take things into a new generation, break the fourth wall, pay tribute to Stan Lee and work some humor into all the films.
I really hope this is true, and I really hope the very first one of these is Deadpool calling out that he's the new Stan Lee in honor of him.
Avatar Beats Avengers: Endgame
Due to its re-releases, Avatar is now back above Avengers: Endgame for the highest-grossing film of all time.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Release Endgame some more, then. Let it reclaim its proper title!
That's pretty cheap to be released over and over again in order to rack up the dollars. Avatar doesn't deserve it.
Kiersey Clemons Back as Iris West / Billy Crudup Out
Kiersen Clemons was cast as Iris West for Justice League, with the assumption she'd be in The Flash. Since that film has taken forever to get off the ground, she eventually had to drop out. Now, it seems she's back, which is great. I thought she had potential to be a great Iris West.
Unfortunately, the same set of circumstances has led to Billy Crudup dropping out, so he'll be recast as Barry's father. I'm disappointed about that, for sure. I thought they had some pretty great casting with that idea and I'm hoping the scheduling conflicts get resolved.
