Welcome to another edition of WEEK IN GEEK here at Fanboys Anonymous—a rundown of some of the events, news and stories that went down over the past few days in the geek culture spectrum.
Here are some of the topics I felt like voicing my opinions about:
Venom: Let There Be Carnage Trailer
Oh. Oh no. Oh this doesn't look like it's going to be better than the last film. In fact, it's looking like it might end up being somehow worse. This doesn't feel right. Carnage doesn't even look impressive, nor does Woody seem like he's got the type of character down that I've always envisioned in Cletus Kasady.
I have a bad feeling about this.
Legend of the Hidden Temple
LOTHT is returning, and it's going to be for adults? Yo! I used to love this show. I even have a Silver Snakes shirt from when I had set up a partnership to tie into New York Comic Con. This is awesome news!
Now give us Nick Arcade with Xavier Woods hosting the show, too. And GUTS should return.
Shang-Chi and Free Guy Sticking to Theaters
Both films are going to remain theater-only showings with a 45-day window, shortening their time before coming to streaming services, but not releasing on the same day. No Disney+ Premier service plans for these two, at least.
I'm all up for these companies experimenting. They need to. Without testing out several different methods, there's no way to know where the future is heading and how to best navigate those waters.
I'm still not feeling comfortable enough to go to theaters. I don't know if I'll be willing to do that by the time these come out. However, my need to see these MCU films before getting stuff spoiled may be the biggest factor in making me just go "screw it, I'll risk it" haha
Disney+ Hits a Wall
After a massive start and an amazing subscriber rate that shattered expectations, the bloom is off the rose.
Q2 reports are 103.6 million subscribers, which is 7 million short of their goal. Also, the average revenue per user is $3.99, down from $5.63.
